Who encourages you? My aunt and uncle encourage me. My uncle Bryan in high school tried to  be the best at everything. He wasn't the best kid in school from storied I hear. Im not meaning like drugs and stuff like that but things like mostly his attitude. He didn't like when people thought they were better than everyone else. So what he did was to show them that he could be better and that they weren't the best. I think during high school and after high school he always dated girls. After high school he had a dream to become a youth pastor. He went from a bad attitude not really caring about anything to becoming a man of God. Yes im going to talk about God because God isn't embarrassed by me so why should i be embarrassed to talk about him? My uncle taught me that I don't need to worry about people not liking me or people talking behind my back. God is with me when no one else is. My Aunt Alisha which is Bryan’s wife is a worship pastor. She sings for The Lord and praises him and shes a women of God. To me shes like a perfect woman of God and shes a role model to me for how in love with The Lord she is. Yes shes made mistakes but who hasn't because i know im not perfect and anyone that reads this isn't perfect. My aunt and uncle encourage me to be me. God loves me no matter what and they encourage me to learn more about Jesus. I know he has big plans in store for me and they encourage me not to give up. They are both such a great role model. My uncle is a youth leader he preaches to like 30 teens so he encourages them all the time. Some days he probably feels like he does nothing and the teens aren't listening but really hes making me an impact on so many lives and those teens will learn from him and go out and help others so if theres 30 kids and every kid goes and help 5 kids thats 150 kids that are encouraged and the people they just helped will go out and help others and the group will get bigger and bigger and hopefully the world will become a better place. All it takes is that 1 person to make a difference and they taught me that because i was in a situation for helping someone and that group got bigger and now there helping others. What I just wrote might seem like they haven't encouraged me but everything i just wrote is from what they taught me and encouraged me to do. You can go from one person and a brand new person. Just have faith, believe, and pray.

I'm going to write about what i'm doing this summer. right now i'm trying to find a job that I can do in the summer. Memorial day weekend i'm going to Kansas city Mo. for a baseball tournament. Before we leave for the baseball tournament my little brother from Louisiana is coming up so he can go with us. which is me and my dad. in the middle of June i'm going to Destin FLorida for a week vacation with my family from Camden Arkansas. I'm also hoping I can babysit some this summer too. In the beginning of July i'm going back to Destin Florida for the baseball world series. My dad has his own baseball academy with like eight or nine teams on it so most of my time is being spent with my baseball family or hanging out with my friends and family. I also hope to start going to youth at my uncles church. I'm also going to start doing fun things with my friends since we will all be driving. those are my plans for summer 2014!! its going to be a blast I cant wait for all the memories that's going to happen!! :)

Grown-ups are usually there to help and encourage kids, right? They take care of kids, help them learn how to do things, show them the right way to behave, and encourage the good things that kids do. Most adults treat kids well. But some adults hurt kids rather than help them. Another word for hurting someone is "abuse."

Child abuse is one of the saddest and most tragic problems in America

today. Each year an estimated one to two million American children are being

beaten, neglected, or sexually abused by their parents or guardians. Infants

only a few days old as well as teenagers are subject to child abuse. There are

four types of child abuse: Physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse. Child abuse is a serious problem that plagues America's youth and should be stopped.

Child abuse is a problem that often goes undetected because of the lack of proof. If we are more aware of the signs, we may be able to save a child’s life.

Child abuse generates generations of scarred, broken and haunted children who are caught in the cycle of abuse. 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children, continuing the cursed cycle of abuse. It needs to stop now. With increases of child fatalities, when is it going to end? It ends now. With you, with me, with everyone. It moves forward because of us. It moves forward because we will make a stand, we will stand up for the shattered dreams. We will not allow our own generations to live in the depths of despair to the great heights of hope.

Its not right that we can pursue our own individual dreams, while others are imprisoned by ill treatment from who they trust, we will rise and fall together as one nation and as one people. Their road has been hard, while their journey has been long, so we will help them pick themselves up and fight the wrongs done, and we will show them that in our hearts we know the best is yet to come. That’s why we do this. That’s why we stand up. That’s why child abuse needs to stop. It’s not small, it’s big. It’s important and if someone has taken away a childs voice, we need to be that child’s voice.

Some children have committed suicide because of child abuse. Some children even suffer big losses in their life. It’s not just the children who get abused but some of the adults too. Some adults and children have trauma from this. They will be a whole different person, after what they’ve gone through. when we make big decisions it necessary for us to keep our head above water and not sink with that broken boat.

Many of us were around the age of 1 or 2 when these attacks occurred and didn’t have a clue what was going on. 9/11 has been one of the biggest events in recent history that sparked a mass awakening across the world. There has been much debate as to how it happened who is responsible and why.

On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Around 8:45 on a clear tuesday morning the first plane loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.

The impact left a gaping burning hole near the 80th floor of the 110 story skyscraper, instantly killing hundreds of people and trapping hundreds more in higher floors. Then, 18 minutes after the first plane hit, a second plane appeared out of the sky turned sharply toward the World Of Trade Center and sliced into the south tower near the 60th floor. The collision caused a massive explosion that showered burning debris over surrounding buildings and the streets below.

A third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Often referred to as 9/11, the attacks resulted in extensive death and destruction, triggering major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defining the presidency of George W. Bush. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters.

It is known that the Twin Towers fell on 9/11, but did you know that a third World Trade Center high-rise building also fell that day? World Trade Center building, a 47-story steel-framed skyscraper located one block from the Twin Towers was not hit by any plane, but collapsed at 5:20 that evening, imploding in the exact manner of a professionally engineered demolition. It fell suddenly, straight down, at near freefall speed, and landed in a compact pile of rubble, barely damaging any of the surrounding buildings.

There are many things to remember about 9/11 and what happened that fateful day, but perhaps the most thing to remember is how defenceless we all are.

Being woken up by my mom crying on the phone, I go into her room and ask what's wrong. I get no answer. I ask my dad I get no answer but to get ready for school and that I didn't need to worry about it. I was eleven years old when one of the most important person in my life was pronounced d...e...a...d dead.

Before this happened, I was happy and taking life day by day. I was my papa Genes little girl, and I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. He lived an hour away and traveled a lot but I always talked to him on the phone, and when he came to visit it was like he has always been there and been connected. He was such a great man and knew how to treat a girl right. We always had such a fun time together. I could never get mad at him. He was one of the most important people in my life. I was glad I had him on earth.

The middle of his event was so so so hard! I was weak I was always sad and depressed. When I first found out he was sick he never improved on getting better. He said he was because he wanted to show me and my family how independent and strong he was and that's exactly the type of man he was. I remember him being on his deathbed and I made him a get well papa card, and when I gave it to him, the smile on his face was unforgettable! It looked like his whole body healed for five minutes. When I gave him a hug and kiss I could just see in his eyes he wanted to feel better and heal to show me how strong he was.

When he finally passed away my mom got a phone call at five a.m. Saying he passed away and that's when I woke up by my moms cry's. I remember getting dressed and my dad saying "Listen kid, Papa Gene passed away this morning." Right then and there I just felt broken. A million things were running through my head. I just wanted to break. I was bawling my eyes out and just shaking. All I wanted to do is just run to my papa and feel his protection and arms wrapped around me. I knew I had to be strong for my mom since it as her dad and for my younger brother. It felt like I had a weight on my shoulders. It was very hard and to this day it's still hard. Just writing about him makes me miss him more.

After this tragic event wore off I'm not as weak and I can look at old pictures of him and talk about him. Day by day I'm getting stronger. I'm older and I understand more than what I did before. I know that he's in a better place now, and he's not sick and in pain anymore. Since this even happened I take life and family more serious and important. I was my papa’s little girl before and I always will be. I have an amazing angel watching over me now.

Everyone in your life is in there for a reason. God gave us all these people to bless us with, so take advantage of the people you're close with cause someday God is going to need those people back even though it might hurt you. Just know that everything happens for a reason and you'll find out eventually. The Lord has you in his hands. So love the people who make you happy, and forgive the people who don't and move on. Thank God for what you have, cause someday it will be gone.

The summer Opal and her father, the preacher, move to Naomi, Florida, Opal goes into the Winn-Dixie supermarket--and comes out with a dog. A big, ugly, suffering dog with a sterling sense of humor. A dog she dubs Winn-Dixie. Because of Winn-Dixie, the preacher tells Opal ten things about her absent mother, one for each year Opal has been alive. Winn-Dixie is better at making friends than anyone Opal has ever known, and together they meet the local librarian, Miss Franny Block, who once fought off a bear with a copy of war and peace. They meet Gloria Dump, who is nearly blind but sees with her heart, and Otis, an ex-con who sets the animals in his pet shop loose after hours, then lulls them with his guitar. Opal spends all that sweet summer collecting stories about her new friends and thinking about her mother. But because of Winn-Dixie or perhaps because she has grown, Opal learns to let go, just a little, and that friendship—and forgiveness—can sneak up on you like a sudden summer storm. This is a kid friendly book and very good! It would be ages ten years and up.

Period 5th

He’s running as fast as he can almost tripping over his shoelaces. Sweat dripping off of his face looking like he just got out of the shower. He can barely feel his legs he’s been running so fast! Its pitch black outside and it's around ten fifteen at night.  All these things spinning through his mind he doesn't know what's going to happen next. He looks back and they are catching up he tries running faster but he gets slower. The next thing he hears are sirens from all different directions. He sees this old broken down car next to this old building he has to get away and he cannot let the cops or the guys behind him see him. He thinks fast and decides to jump in it. He sits there trying to catch his breath but trying to be quiet. He listens for the guys that were behind him but he doesn’t hear them. Still trying to catch his breath he hears some people talking but doesn’t look up. He’s pretty sure its the guys that were chasing him. About ten minutes later he hasn't heard anything. He didn't hear any more sirens, just some dogs that sounded far away barking. The town was dead. He thinks it would just be safer to spend the night in the junk car and go home in the morning. So thats what he did.

My name is Corey i'm thirteen years old, My dad ran away when my mom was pregnant with me, he said he wasnt ready to be a father. My mom Is always stressed, never home, and doesn't try very hard to make money to provide for me nor her. For most of the time im a good boy but people just assume that i'm bad. sometimes I have to do bad things so I can survive. Cause you know my mom won’t do anything for me, so I have to do it for the both of us. I get out of the old nasty car and head home just taking it easy breathing in the fresh air. The sun is shining and he’s going to forget what happened last night. He says “Its going to be a good day.” He walks in the front door of his house and what he thought was going to be a good day turned bad with just the sound of his mother’s voice saying “Did you get me something to eat?! I was starving last night and you didnt even come home!” “Mom he said, when I went to the store last night they caught me stealing stuff and so i had to take off running and make sure they didn’t catch me so I spent the night in an old car.” “Well give me the food! his mother Gena said.” “Mom all I could get was some bread and Hot Pockets.” Corey sat down and let his mom eat first. He laid down on his bed and fell asleep dreaming of what it would be like to have a family, and nice things and having food all the time and what it would be like to have people care about him.

Dyslexia

Bella Thorne shared, “Dyslexia has affected my life in a big way. At first, I was really afraid and self conscious because I didn’t feel like I was as smart as other kids and couldn’t read the way they did. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t do so many things as well as other kids, and why I was learning so much slower. After I found out I had dyslexia, I was confused about how I felt.” She continued, “In a way, I was happy to know that it was something that affects other people and that I wasn’t alone, but I also felt bad because I knew I had a big struggle ahead of me and that it may affect me my whole life. Now, I feel proud. I really work hard at reading and accept that sometimes I might get confused and that it is ok. I’m not alone. Dyslexia has taught me that if you work really hard, you can overcome great challenges.”

Dyslexia is a specific reading disability due to a defect in the brain's processing of graphic symbols. It is a learning disability that alters the way the brain processes written material. It is typically characterized by difficulties in word recognition, spelling and decoding. People with dyslexia have problems with reading comprehension.

Dyslexia commonly runs in families. Children don't outgrow dyslexia. It is important for family members and the person with dyslexia to remember that Dyslexia is not a disease. There is currently no "cure" for dyslexia. There are, however, a range of specialist and well targeted interventions that can help children and adults improve their reading and writing skills. Dyslexics tend to be more curious, creative, and intuitive than average. Dyslexics score significantly higher on test when they are given additional time and given the test orally.

It was once thought that dyslexia is more common in boys than in girls, but recent research had shown that this is not the case. An equal number of girls and boys are dyslexic. It is thought that boys are more likely to act out as a result of having a reading difficulty and are therefore more likely to be identified early. Girls, on the other hand, are more likely to try to "hide" their difficulty, becoming quiet and reserved.

Theres more than just one dyslexia. Trauma Dyslexia usually occurs after some form of brain trauma or injury to the area of the brain that controls reading and writing. It is a permanent brain injury rarely seen in today's school-age population because it results from severe head injuries.

Primary dyslexia is a dysfunction of, rather than damage to, the left side of the brain and does not change with age. Individuals with this type of dyslexia are rarely able to read above a fourth-grade level and may struggle with reading, spelling, and writing as adults. Primary dyslexia is passed in family lines through their genes.

Secondary or developmental types of dyslexia is felt to be caused by hormonal development or malnutrition during the early stages of fetal development. Poor parenting, abuse, neglect, and/or poor nutrition during the developmental years 0 to 5 are also known causes. Developmental dyslexia diminishes as the child matures. It is also more common in boys.

Visual dyslexia is the term used for the specific learning disability termed visual processing disorder. This form of dyslexia is the result of immature development of not only the eyes, but the whole process that gets information from the eyes to the brain.

Phonological (auditory) dyslexia This form of dyslexia involves difficulty with sounds of letters or groups of letters. When this form of dyslexia is present, the sounds are perceived as jumbled or not heard correctly. And just as with visual processing, the brain correctly interprets information that it correctly received.

Some famous people with dyslexia are:

  • Alexander Graham Bell - inventor of the telephone.

  • Lewis Carroll - author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

  • Albert Einstein - physicist who developed the general theory of relativity.

  • Tom Cruise - actor.

  • Steve Jobs - co-founder of Apple Inc.

  • John Lennon - musician, one of The Beatles.

  • Jay Leno - talk show host and comedian.

  • Jamie Oliver - celebrity chef.

  • Bella Thorne- off the disney show shake it up.

Over Christmas break I spent lots of time visiting my family and opening lots of presents, which I am so blessed to have. Christmas isn't about Santa and presents and all that stuff, Christmas is about CHRIST. No body would be here if it wasn't for Jesus dying on the cross for us to have lives and for our sins. Anyway I got a chi straightener, clothes, a car, iTunes and Starbucks gift cards, makeup, boots, scarf’s, head massage, and a few other things. I had a great Christmas and hope everyone else did too. I woke up Christmas morning around 7:00 am to open presents. My dad made a scavenger hunt and gave me clues to find my presents. It was very cool. After that I got ready and me and my family went next door to my grandpas house and we did Christmas over there and had lots of snack food. Every year I have about seven Christmases. Thursday when we were in school I went to the intermediate school and had lunch with a little boy that i’m good friends with.  That was what I did during my Christmas break.
